  • Hacker -- Someone attempting to acquire unauthorized access into protected resources or impedes the operation of a website or computer system in anyway.
  • Hit -- The relocation of one file from a web server to a browser or other client software.  Information that is useful on overall traffic flow can be gathered by counting hits. Counting hits, however, is an inadequate gauge of the number of visitors inasmuch as every web page asked for involves the transporting of multiple files, including even the HTML page, each in-line image, and any audio files.
  • Home Page -- A website's top-level page; the home page is typically presented automatically in a visitor's browser when the URL of the website is type in.  Home pages generally have index.cfm or index.cfml as their file name.
  • Host -- A computer with total two-way access to additional computers on the Internet that allows it to both dispatch and obtain data.  Internet hosts all have unique Internet Protocol addresses (IP address) and unique host names.
  • Host Name -- Like a digital certificate that provides online security and Internet security with secure authentication, the host name is a name appointed uniquely to a host for identification on a network, in electronic mail, Usenet news, or additional types of data swapping.
  • HTML -- Hyper-text Mark-up Language.  Used to create and generate web pages, HTML is a non-proprietary, tag-based page description language. 
  • HTTP -- Hypertext Transfer Protocol.   The communications' code of behavior or "language" used by servers and browsers to transport web pages via the Internet or an intranet.
  • HTTPS -- Secure Hypertext Transfer Protocol.  A web protocol utilizing the Netscape Communication's Secure Socket Layer (SSL).  It does this within the usual HTTP communication and ciphers and encrypts data remitted from a user to the web server -- a "secure server", such as a SSL secure server that promotes online security and Internet security with encryption, 256 Bit SSL certificates, 256 Bit encryption, digital certificates, secure SSL certificates, SSL digital certificates -- and decrypts encrypted and ciphered pages that are restored to the user.
  • Hub -- A website providing a significantly sized collection of news, reference information, and relevant off-site links that are centered about a particular subject or vertical industry area. See also "Net Market."
  • Hyperlink -- A graphic component or text in a web page connecting to an additional information resource, a web page or downloadable file, for example.
