- Mailing List -- An online discussion forum that is topic-based. Participants subscribe so that they can swap e-mail messages that concern news and other subjects related to the focus of list. This is all completed via a listserv program.
- Merchant Account -- A merchant account is a banking relationship that allows a business to take credit cards.
- Merchant Bank -- See Acquiring Bank.
- Merchant Server -- An element in the SET condition, run by an on-line merchant in order to process authorizations and payment card transactions. Merchant server relates with the customer Wallet, Payment Gateway, and Certificate Authority components to bring online security and Internet security with secure authentication, just as digital certificates and secure SSL certificates do.
- Metadata -- The data used in order to identify, explain, portray or depict a collection of data.
- Meta Tag -- A HTML tag that is optional that is deeply implanted and embedded in a web page. It includes information about the document or website. Theoretically, meta tags can be used in improving a website's position in some search engines because spiders sent out by the search engines use keyword and content description data from meta tags in order to index sites. The process influences when and how the website appears in search results.
- Micropayment -- A minimal dollar value payment deal that takes place online. A micropayment is often considered to be less than $1.00 or $5.00. It can be as small as one-tenth of a cent or even less. Micropayments make use of digital cash because they are usually too small in value to be processed on a credit card.
- Mirror Site -- A replica translation of a website. Mirror sites are copied from a different server to accommodate large numbers of users, offer redundancy or enhance site performance by locating an exact copy closer to a significant quantity of users.
- MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operating equipment) -- MRO pertains to everyday purchases by businesses which do not relate directly to their output. Office supplies, travel services, furnishings, and housekeeping are examples of MRO.
