- Real-time Credit Card Processing -- The method of taking the credit card details of a customer online, acquiring consent of authorization from the issuing bank, and charging the card all as the shopper briefly waits.
- Record -- a single set out of multiple similarly-formatted sets of data in a database. A record may, for instance, be made up of a customer's name, address, and purchasing history in a customer database. Each and every individual piece of data that is in a record is called a "field."
- Registration Authority -- a phrase alluding to the people, processes, and tools which are used in order to assist the registration of users and issuance of digital certificates with the PKI (enrollment). - Relational Database -- A database where all data is structured and retrieved by way of interrelationships.
- Request for Proposal (RFP) -- A call for retailers to bid on supplying complicated products and/or services.
- Request for Quote (RFQ) -- A call for retailers to bid on supplying products and/or services that are easily describable.
- Reverse Auction -- A kind of auction where buyers post product and/or service needs that they have while retailers bid in order to fulfill those requests. Prices plummet as retailers compete.
- RSA -- A public-key cryptosystem algorithm, named in honor of its inventors, used for encryption and digital signatures.
