SSL Certificate Security
SSL Certificate Terms, like SSL Protocol, digital certificate, and https can be very confusing. If you are not a techno geek don't worry. Our friendly staff will help you install your 256 Bit webserver certificate by phone, patiently walking you through each step.
The first step to install SSL is to create a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) on your server. To make it easy for you, DigiCert provides detailed SSL Certificate Installation Instructions for all the popular servers. Installing SSL Certificates on the most common servers often takes less than 5 minutes! (Apache Servers, or IIS Manager in Windows NT)
SSL stands for "Secure Sockets Layer". Netscape created the SSL protocol, and it has been accepted as the standard now by all the other common web browsers, like Internet Explorer, FireFox, Opera and Netscape. The SSL certificate is what makes your web server secure. A Certification Authority like DigiCert issues the SSL Certificate that encrypts the data as a secure SSL transaction.
Strong SSL Security requires 256 Bit SSL encryption. DigiCert's 256 Bit encryption keys are so large that they are virtually impossible to crack. This SSL Key (private key) must "handshake" with the SSL Certificate before the web browser can transmit secure data through the SSL Port (https Port)on the secure server, secured by SSL.
