What's your role in your organization’s software release process?

I manage governance and security policy standards in my organization I help define software security measures and collaborate with DevOps to implement them I manage the security of our software products we produce I’m in charge of development and CI/CD infrastructure, including code signing tools and implementing software security measures I sign software using certificates and keys based on roles and access I have been given by my organization

Having multiple teams around the world using different software development tools and release processes Having too many different signing methodologies and philosophies Locating all the certificates and keypairs, including those stored on Developer systems, tokens, etc. Managing the storage, access and lifecycle of certificates and keypairs Making sure we meet all compliance and regulation standards that apply to us

What is your biggest code signing policy challenge?

Knowing where to start Having a policy that’s comprehensive but also practical Aligning security, compliance, and dev teams around one policy Controlling access and privileges to the certificates and keypairs Complying with multiple regulations like NIS2, CA/B Forum, PCI, etc.

What is driving your need for a code signing policy?

We have executive pressure to secure our software releases We have a strong security culture, and we understand it’s important to have a centralized policy We’re growing and we need code signing to be a smooth, scalable policy We need centralized control and visibility of certificates and keypairs We need to comply with government, industry, and standards body regulations because we are audited regularly

What is the outcome you’re hoping to achieve by having a code signing policy document?

A high-level framework that meets basic compliance needs A real, usable policy document based on industry best practices A policy that supports all stakeholders, including Security & DevOps needs A secure system with automated key and certificate management and clearly defined access roles A policy that allows us to comply with regulations
