What is the Accredited Standards Committee X9 (ASC X9) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO)?

ASC X9 is an organization accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to develop and maintain voluntary consensus standards for the U.S. financial services industry. ASC X9 additionally represents the United States on three International Organization for Standardization (ISO) technical committees. ASC X9 has the mission to create and maintain US and International standards that improve payments and securities transactions, protect data and facilitate information exchange.

The ISO is a global federation of standards bodies from more than 160 countries, with one standards body representing each member country. ISO members are the foremost standards bodies in their country and cannot be represented by businesses or individuals. ISO develops and publishes international standards. The organization has developed over 24,000 International Standards and all are included in the ISO Standards catalogue.
