Getting Started with Code Signing

Purchasing a code signing certificate is a simple process. Most of the time, you won't even need a CSR before you can go through the purchase order form online:

  1. If you are new to DigiCert, go to our code signing order form and select the number of years for which you wish to purchase your code signing certificate, then click the button at the bottom of the form to continue.

If you already have an account, go ahead and login to your account and click the link to "Buy Certificates" and then choose "Code Signing" to then follow the rest of the step outlined above

  2. In the second step of the order process you will select what kind of platform you will be using your code-signing cert with. You are ONLY required to submit a CSR if you select "Sun Java" as your platform type. For all other platforms, the CSR will be created for you.
  3. New customers should enter their organization details in the third step. If you are an existing customer, review this information before you continue.
  4. In the fourth step of the order process you will be required to enter valid and verifiable contact information as a Certificate Requester. As a security measure we will need to contact your HR, IT, Corporate, or Legal department head in order to verify the information that you enter during this step.
  5. During step five you will enter your payment information (you can pay with credit cards, purchase orders, or existing account balances or account credits).

Once your order has been completed it will be sent to our validation department for verification. The validation process is usually fairly straightforward and can be completed in under an hour or two, although there can be issues that would extend the process beyond what is standard, especially if we have difficulty verifying the identity of the Certificate Requester.

Once the validation process is completed, an email will be sent to the Certificate Requester with instructions for installation.
